DS Regional Band and Chorus Fenway Performance

On Sunday September 13th, under the direction of Janice Barry, Tom Duprey, and Geoff Herrmann, the Dover Sherborn Regional Chorus and Band performed the Star Spangled Banner at Fenway Park. More than 150 students, grades 7 through 12, sung or played the national anthem for a once in a lifetime opportunity. After a 3 hour rain delay, the students kicked off the Red Sox vs Royals game with an amazing performance.

Fueling The Fire: Why Gas Prices Are Rising So Fast

People all around the country—and right here in Sherborn—have been switching to electric or hybrid cars, and the reason is simple - gas prices are rising at an unprecedentedly fast rate. In fact, the national average gas price is a whole $1.34 per gallon higher than it was last year today (AAA Fuel Prices). For a commuter town like ours where everyone relies on cars to get around, this hit to the wallet is tough. But this is not the only time that the gas prices have skyrocketed. In fact, during the last four presidential terms, gas prices have almost always spiked under the new administration, as you can see on the chart below.

However, this time, instead of a new administration, high gas prices are driven by global supply constraints, significant state taxes—including Massachusetts' high fuel taxes—and anxieties surrounding international shipping routes. Ongoing conflicts such as the ever accelerating Iran - Israeli war have threatened vital transit lanes like the Strait of Hormuz to stay closed longer than hoped, prompting energy markets to price in a risk premium that keeps costs elevated at gas stations. Especially for us, who live in a Sherborn, this hits particularly hard because we rely solely on Sherborn Fuel to fill up our tank rather than having multiple options, like slightly larger towns such as Dover.
