Summer reading program kicks off at Sherborn Library

The Sherborn Public Library launched its annual summer reading program this week with a kickoff party on the lawn featuring ice cream from a local dairy farm and a performance by children's musician Steve Blunt. More than 120 children and parents attended the Monday afternoon event, filling every blanket on the grass.

This year's theme, "Reading Through the Woods," ties into Sherborn's conservation heritage, with recommended titles about nature, local history, and environmental science. Children who log at least eight books by August 31 will receive a certificate and a coupon for a free ice cream at the Farms ice cream stand on Route 27.

Teen and adult tracks offer parallel challenges, including a town history trivia contest and a photo scavenger hunt on Sherborn trails. Librarian Catherine O'Neill said registration is open through July 20 and that all participants receive a free bookmark printed with a vintage map of the town from 1875.
