Select Board finalizes Town Government objectives for FY2027

The Select Board has finalized its Town Government objectives for fiscal year 2027, setting the priorities that will guide departments, budgets, and capital requests through next year's town meeting cycle. The document is now the board's working roadmap for the year ahead.

Alongside the objectives, the board advanced the town's Hazard Mitigation Plan — the framework that keeps Sherborn eligible for federal and state grants when storms, flooding, or extended drought strike — and approved a Purple Heart Community proclamation honoring residents wounded in service. The board also moved forward with its new Veterans Services Committee, a standing body to coordinate benefits outreach and ceremonies.

The month's meetings also included a visit from the town's state senator, who updated members on Beacon Hill priorities affecting small towns. The full objectives document is posted on the town website.

FY26 capital plan: 51 projects, $18 million through FY31

The town's capital improvement plan lays out 51 projects totaling roughly $18 million through fiscal 2031. Highlights include a schools turf field, new tennis and pickleball courts at Jameson Field, a replacement ambulance, and work on the History Center.

The plan sequences purchases so big-ticket items land in years the budget can carry them; the full document is posted in the town's Document Center.

Fall pest alerts: mosquitoes and the spotted lanternfly

The Board of Health is asking residents to keep up mosquito precautions through the first hard frost — repellent, long sleeves at dusk, and draining standing water around the yard remain the best defenses against EEE and West Nile virus.

Separately, a spotted lanternfly — an invasive insect that damages fruit trees, maples, and grapevines — has been identified in Sherborn. Residents who spot one are asked to photograph it, note the location, and report it to the state's invasive species program.
